What is Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)?
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (RN OSCE) is a test that examines foreign registered nurses who want to practice Nursing in Australia. The test aims for the applicants to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and judgment in a setting that is as close as possible to real-life clinical experiences they would face as a nurse in Australia.
What is included in the OSCE?
Each RN OSCE station assesses your ability to perform a specific clinical skill, it will also take into consideration your ability to manage the care of a patient in a holistic manner. It is therefore important that the care you provide within each station takes into consideration the individual situation for that patient, and that the care provided is tailored to their individual needs.
How many exam stations are there for the OSCE?
OSCE has 10 individual stations. Each station has a 10 minutes allocation for reading (2 minutes) and Interaction (8 minutes).
How and when do I register for the OSCE?
Once you pass your MCQ, your IQNM dashboard will advise you that you are eligible to sit the OSCE and you will be advised to pay the OSCE fee. After receiving your fee, the IQNM exams team will contact you in relation to upcoming dates.
How much is the fee for OSCE?
The examination is conducted by AHPRA and the fee is AUD 4,000.
Can the fee be refunded?
The OSCE fee is non-refundable regardless of reasons but you can reschedule your exam.
Can the exam be only taken in Australia?
Yes. The exam only takes place in Adelaide, South Australia.
What do I do if I’m not in Australia?
If you are outside Australia, then you would need to travel to Australia to undertake the OSCE examination. Moreover, It’s the candidate who will book travel for him/herself including accommodation.
How long is the OSCE?
Each session will go for approximately 3-3.5hrs. Candidates will be allocated to either an AM or PM session.
When will I get my results?
The examination results will be sent to the candidates within 6 weeks of their exam date to their registered email addresses. If you passed OSCE, then you will be eligible to apply for registration and the steps to apply will be in your IQNM dashboard.
Can I retake the exam if I fail?
Candidates who fail the OSCE can apply to retake the examination as soon as they have received their results. They must first ensure that the fee for their next OSCE has been paid via the IQNM dashboard. Once the IQNM exam team has been notified of the payment, a booking selection email will be sent and this will include the next available examination schedule.
